Ford Lehman 135. While Lehman
are normally red don't let the color fool you. This Lehman engine
is known for being a reliable work horse and is used broadly as a
bus engine. While most CT-54s have a 120, this vessel's
135 hp is a nice upgrade as the extra horsepower is appreciated
for cruising and when going into an inlet with strong tide and currents.
Installed in 87.
Low hours. |

Alternator. Balmar 200 amp tied into a Link 2000R. |
 |
Kilo-pak 8 kw generator with soundshield. Has
124 hours as of June 2004. I chose this genset over other models
because of its stainless steel fittings including oil pan, and its
IZUSU motor and parts which are accessible all around the world.
Standarized versus expensive proprietary parts. |

Racors fuel filters. Double
900 series for the engine and genset; and a 500 series for the
fuel pump. The 900 series while oversized has proven practical
in several respects. If you ever get into a situation where you
encounter bad fuel (it happens) simple turn one valve to the other
racor filter and switch tanks and you are underway. With my previous
fuel system I once developed fuel system air leak and as the each
filter provides 20 minutes running time I was able to get into
port and through a bridge without difficulty.

Fuel system. The fuel system has been designed
to serve several functions including:
- Provide engine and genset with fuel
- Transfer fuel between any of the 3 tanks
- Act as a fuel priming mechanism, i.e. for racors and engine
- Provide fuel polishing services while docked so fuel stays
algae free
This is revision 2 of my design. It is simple with only 2 valves
in the system. Recently I was asked by a mechanic if I planned
to patent the design. No plans there I said. |

3 Fuel Tanks. All 316 low carbon stainless steel.
The forward tank is comprised of two tanks which have an areoquip
hose connecting the two tanks. All have excellent large access ports
for cleaning. All have calibrated fuel senders. Each tank also has
its own dip stick - nothing more reliable than low tech. Fuel tanks
have a vent to the outside. |
 |
2 Water Tanks on either side of the engine. Both
316 low carbon stainless steel. |
 |
Hoseclamps. All 316 stainless steel. |
 |
4 Blue Sea Battery boxes containing 8D AGMs.
Forward bank replaced Jun 2004, and the bank to the port of the engine
replaced Nov 2003. |
 |
Noise form sound proofing. Close cell lead foam
was installed under the floor while the tanks were out and throughout
the bilge. |
